Design Philosophy Statement

Interior Design is present in everything, from residential to office designs. I first started getting interested in design in high school, and my curiosity has been growing ever since. My interest in design is focused on residential living areas, and how they can be transformed into new spaces simply by adding a splash of color or getting a new piece of furniture. I am constantly being inspired by things around me, such as buildings I see or even things in magazines. For my future in interior design, I want to design eco-friendly spaces that use natural materials and let in lots of light.

Logo Design

The task for this assignment was to create a unique logo that represented our different design philosophies. I started out by using my initials to sketch different ideas, then added my full name and started experimenting with font. Once I found a design I liked, I decided to place a picture at the top to connect my name together and add a sense of unity to the overall design. The image started out as being two "J" letters that I flipped on their sides, but it eventually morphed into what looks like a bird in flight. This represents my design philosophy as I believe in creativity and free expression, and I feel that a bird also symbolizes this. Color was later added to add emphasis on the name, and the initials "KJ" along with the bird are all in blue to connect all the separate pieces in the logo. My knowledge grew in this assignment as I learned how to create a logo that was both professional and meaningful. I was also able to experiment using a drawing tablet, and I learned how to better use the InDesign program.
